    Traditional Medicine across European and Asian Culture

    (November 2002 – October 2005)

    The project aims at carrying outhistorical-ethnographic studies on traditional medicine in the Euro-Asiancountries and at creating a virtual platform to share and exchange informationusing the new opportunities offered by the IT&C solutions. The leadinstitution in this project is CEFPAS (Centre for Training and Research inPublic Health), Italy.The other participatory institutions aside from IPC include the ThailandInstitute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), Thailand; Committeefor the Promotion of Public Awareness and Development Studies (COPPADES),Nepal; Indira Gandhi Integral Education Centre(IGIEC), India; and University of Athens – Faculty of Nursing – Department ofSurgery, Greece. Target groups include primarily the general population,elderly and young people, men and women, traditional healers – includingherbalists and religious leaders – and Primary Health Care (PHC) doctors. Activitiesinclude a number of surveys and qualitative-quantitative investigations atcommunity level on population beliefs of the causes of the most commonillnesses/symptoms and on their choices of popular remedies to improve theirconditions. The project was given the following rating by the EuropeanCommission in its first year of the project implementation:
